When used in the correct way hashtags can lead to double the user engagement and drive heap loads of consumers to your social feeds… The use of hashtag purposes varies from platform to platform, we find hashtags to be most beneficial on Twitter and Instagram; we’ve highlighted a couple of tips that we believe will boost your audience base!
Let’s start off where the social hashtag originated… Twitter! For many it’s tempting to add a large amount of hashtags in order to maximise engagement, however research states that the less hashtags you use the more interaction you’ll encounter. This shows that the main focus should be quality not quantity! We like to focus on 3 golden rules to ensure our Twitter hashtags are up there with the best:
Keep them relevant – don’t just jump on any hashtag for the sake of it!
Keep hashtags to a minimum – don’t overload your content with hashtags, it can come across too salesy, we recommend using no more than 3 – 4 per post
Keep hashtags at the bottom of your post – it looks more professional and keeps hashtags more relevant
To be noticed in a wider scope other than your existing followers on Instagram it’s vital to add hashtags. Instagram recommends using 30 hashtags per post, it’s important to choose your hashtags wisely in order to be seen and connect with the right people!
Don’t just use hashtags that describe your image – for example using #clothes will just get lost amongst the crowds and you won’t see the benefits, be more creative with your tags and think inside the mind of your target audience!
Do your research - check out your chosen hashtags before posting to make sure your image is relevant, you can also pick up other hashtags along the way
Vary your hashtags - don't just jump on the biggest hashtags, mix them up with a variation of small and medium ones, this ensures your images are seen and don't get lost in the noise
Hopefully this has given you an insight on how to use your hashtags wisely, feel free to get in touch for a social chat!
